Principal’s Newsletter – February 2018

“Souper Bowl” Food Drive

Our food drive has kicked off to a great start. So far, our pantry is overflowing with items for the Hyde Park Food Bank! We will continue to collect food items until Friday, February 9, 2018. Once Again, thank you for all of your support in this great cause.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is piling up. Please have your child check if they are missing any winter clothing.

Transportation Changes

Please write notes to your classroom teacher if there are any changes in your child’s transportation plan. Last minute calls to the school can cause confusion and mistakes can be made. Please also inform us if someone other than the people on the list will be picking up your student.

School Vacation

There will be no school during the week of February 19th. All students will return on Monday, February 26th.

Craft Fair

On Saturday, February 10, 2018, the Parent Council will be hosting a Craft Fair at the Ohrenberger Cafeteria from 9:30 am-12:30 pm. There is a $2 per child fee to pay for the cost of the crafts the students will make. Please RSVP to ensure that enough crafts are available for the students. If you are interested in volunteering for the day, please contact the main office. This is not a parent drop off event.

Olympic Day

To celebrate the opening of the Winter Olympics, students can wear the colors of any country on Friday, February 9th.

The Beethoven/Ohrenberger Glow Run is coming! This March, all students will be running in a Glow Run to help our school. Pledging opens February 28th. Be on the lookout for more information!

The Beethoven is always collecting: Boxtops for Education from Kimberly Clark brand products and ink cartridges from any printer brand to recycle to get money for the school.

The Beethoven will accept donations of: Kleenex and paper towels.

Principal’s Newsletter – January 2018

The staff and I would like to thank all of the parents and students for their gifts, cards and warm wishes during the holiday season. Thank you!

Parent Conferences

Individual Parent Conferences will be taking place in January for all grades.  Please communicate with your teachers to set up an appointment time. If something comes up and you cannot make it to your scheduled meeting time, please call the school so we might be able to accommodate another parent. The number for the school is 617-635-8149.

Book Fair

The parent run Scholastic Book fair was another huge success. Both the Parent Council and I would like to thank all of the parents who supported the fair by purchasing books, volunteering and buying books for the classrooms.

Label Clothing

Please write the initials of your child on the tags of their jackets. Students are leaving their clothing around the school and it is easier to locate the owner if the jacket, hat, gloves, etc. is labeled.

Souper Bowl Drive

Our annual food drive will begin on January 22 and end on February 9. All food collected will be donated to a local food pantry. Thank you for your generosity.

Patriots Days

As long as the Patriots are in the playoffs, we allow students to support the home team (or any football team) by wearing Patriots outfits or colors the Friday before a game. Let’s hope we make it to the Superbowl again!!!

Student Info

Please make sure you know your child’s teacher and grade when calling the office. It makes it easier for office staff to assist you.

Winter and the Schoolyard

With the winter months upon us and snow falling frequently in New England, please be extra cautious in the schoolyard during pick up and drop off times. It is imperative that students use the crosswalk to cross the bus line to get to the sidewalk.

Parents please respect the bus line by allowing the buses to flow freely in and out of the schoolyard. Near the entrance of the schoolyard cars need to be pulled in and up as far as possible so the buses can make the swing and a clear entrance into the schoolyard. Please fill in spaces as much as possible so cars waiting to get in do not block the firehouse.

Mark your Calendars

The dates for the Holiday shows are: Grades 1, 2 3 – December 12 / Grades K1 & K2 – December 13

Safety in the Schoolyard

With the upcoming elections on 11/7, please be extra cautious driving in the schoolyard during arrival and/or dismissal times. The community voters are not aware of the driving routines that have been established in the schoolyard. I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience and help during the election days this year. We are expecting a very high voter turnout.

During a regular dismissal day the school buses have priority to leave the schoolyard. Please pull your car as close to the front of the schoolyard as possible and avoid parking toward the entrance of the schoolyard by the playground. Thank you.

Lost & Found

Our lost and found is filling up at record rates. Please write your child’s name on their jackets and sweatshirts. If they end up in the lost and found, they can be returned.

Library Books

Many library books are getting damaged by water. Please be sure water bottles are secured in backpacks and away from the books.

Calling the School

When calling the school please identify your child by first and last name, grade level and their teacher’s name. We have 350 students and it helps us to identify students quickly and safely.
