The Beethoven/Ohrenberger Parent Council met on November 10 at 6:30 p.m.
The Beethoven/Ohrenberger Parent Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. The location alternates between the Beethoven auditorium and the Ohrenberger library. Childcare is provided.
Next Tuesday both the Beethoven and Ohrenberger will host a “Principal for a Day” – These are city leaders who will come to visit the school.
The Ohrenberger hosted a high school fair last Wednesday – The fair was coordinated by the school social worker for the 8th grade students. There were 14 BPS schools along with some charter and private schools.
Kickoff for kindergarten enrollment starts in December.
Beethoven Holiday shows are December 15 (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and December 16 (K1 & K2); Ohrenberger Holiday show will be December 18.
There will be a meeting soon to discuss the Ohrenberger playground- Time TBA.
Outerwear Exchange: The outerwear exchange will continue through next week. You may drop off outerwear at both the Beethoven and Ohrenberger as well as pick out any outerwear that you may need.
Book Exchange: The book exchange has become much more popular now that it is set up in the foyer at Beethoven. Please feel free to take a book as well as donate any books you no longer need. There was a discussion about starting a book exchange for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade as well.
Car decals are still available. They are $3 each.
Coffee with Mr. P – Last month we had our first “coffee with Mr. P” at the Beethoven gym. Many topics were discussed. We will keep you updated for future meetings.
Physicals are needed every year! Annual physical exams are needed for sports as well as school enrollment. Reminders from the nurse will be sent home. Also Nurse Doherty is in need of uniform shirts.
MAKING MUSIC MATTERS (MMM): There are currently 454 students in MMM. Over 1/3 are from the Ohrenberger School.
Last week’s 3rd grade concert was a great success. All are welcome to attend concerts. Feel free to contact parent liaisons – Britt Young or Joan Chan for more information.
Upcoming Concerts: Tuesday, November 17 – 5th grade concert and Thursday, November 19 is the 4th grade concert both at 9am. All are welcome in the auditorium at Ohrenberger.
MMM Raffle starts this week – 4 tickets to the Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker, GoPro camera, Ipod shuffle and gift card, and a chromebook. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Contact Britt at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like tickets.
5th grade clarinet players from Ohrenberger are invited to play the Star Spangled Banner at a hockey game next Friday night. It will be the first community performance of the year.

SAVERS Fundraiser – NEXT WEEK!!!! Drop off any items at the Savers in West Roxbury from November 16-21 and we will be paid per pound of goods donated. International Night is next Thursday! Come enjoy a night of fun, culture and good food! Jess Warning and Erin Hannon-Foley are coordinating.
Launch Fundraiser: January 4th – A day at Launch Trampoline Park in Norwood. A portion of the proceeds will go to the our schools. We are hoping to combine this with a Friendly’s fundraiser as well. Flyer attached.
Care Packages for the Troops: We will again send care packages to the troops in the spring.
Possible upcoming event: presentation of proper social media use for middle school students.

Plaster Fun Time Fundraiser: Coordinator needed. Tasks: Contact PFT about fundraising opportunities. Discuss date with Parent Council. Publicize the event.
Book fair (week of December 14): People needed to help out with fair – especially needed is a point person for the Ohrenberger. Tasks include coordinating class visits, teacher wish lists and volunteers. Contact Cathy Ware if interested firstname.lastname@example.org.
Craft Day (February 6): NEW Coordinator needed for next year – current coordinators are looking for someone to work with them this year in the hope of taking over coordination next year. Parent volunteers needed as well. Do you have a new idea for a craft that you would like to bring? Let us know – we have access to many supplies just let is know what you need! Field Day (beginning of June): New co-coordinator needed. Current coordinator Katie Tattan is willing to help. Tasks include planning games for the day, making schedule, obtaining supplies for games and coordinating volunteers.
Enrichment Activities: Ideas and coordinators needed. Tasks: Bring your idea(s) to Parent Council and school administration. If approved – coordinate the event and publicize to families and teachers.
