The Beethoven/Ohrenberger Parent Council meeting took place on December 9, 2014, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Beethoven/Ohrenberger Parent Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. The location alternates between the Beethoven Auditorium and the Ohrenberger Library. January’s meeting will take place at the Ohrenberger. Childcare is provided.
Ms. Krakow is out on maternity leave from January through July. Mr. P will split his time between the two schools. Ms. Holbrook will help with administration at the Beethoven. Mrs. Blake will fill in for Ms. Holbrook as needed.
Beethoven Construction…..almost done!!!
Mr. P’s brother is chief medical officer on his base in Afghanistan. We will be sending care packages after the holidays. Wendy Loeser is coordinating.
We are transitioning from the MCAS to the PARCC. Mr. P suggests that parents visit parcc.org to take a sample test and see what the new test is like.
Lost and Found has moved to under that stairs in lobby.
Holiday Shows: Due to limited seating, no siblings from other classes will be allowed to come to the shows; the students will perform for each other before school vacation.
Beethoven: 1st and 2nd grade show: December 16 at 9 a.m. sharp!
Beethoven: K1, K2, and 3rd grade MMM! show: December 17 at 9 a.m. sharp!
Ohrenberger Show: December 19 at 9 a.m. sharp!
Parent volunteers needed on Thursday, December 18, during the school day to help decorate for the Ohrenberger’s holiday show. Contact Britt Young at firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help.
Scholastic Book Fairs: December 15-19. Hours for the Beethoven are: Monday and Thursday: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday: 10 a.m.-12 p.m. (after the holiday shows); Friday: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Hours for the Ohrenberger are: Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; Friday: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
All classes will have a chance to go and purchase books. (Speak with your child’s teacher about the logistics).
Parents and others can stop by during open hours to shop.
**There will also be “wish lists” from teachers so you can purchase a gift for your child’s class.**
We need help to make it run!!
If you have an hour or two to spare, it would be much appreciated. We especially need help on Tuesday and Wednesday after the holiday shows.
Set up at both schools is Friday 12/12 after drop off. It will only take a couple of hours if we have enough help.

Treasurer’s Report: Ohrenberger we will be purchasing laptop carts. Amy Trueblood will talk to Mr. Gavin.
Beethoven Car Decals: On sale for $3. To purchase one look for a flyer in your child’s folder or contact Karen Kefalas.
Afterschool Enrichment: Mr. P feels that logistically afterschool enrichment activities are difficult to manage. He proposes adding activities to the after school program such as a theme day each month that might center around crafts, science. or music. He will talk to Ms. Garlington. Jen Koch will follow up with him.
Restaurant Fundraiser: Chrissy Jewell is coordinating.
Anti-Bullying Speaker: Lisa Burns looking into it.
Coke Rewards: Beethoven coke rewards total is 1780 points; Ohrenberger has 3,349 points.
Enrichment Activity: We are looking into bringing a local dance company called Urbanity to perform various types of dance for our students. Coordinated by Analiza Traub.
Making Music Matters:
The two top student sellers and winners of an iTunes gift card will be notified later this week. Here are the raffle winners:
– A faculty member at the Conley School won the iPod Shuffle with an iTunes gift card.
– Ryan Ho, an O 5th grade student won the Dr. Dre Beats headphones.
– A grandmother of a MMM! student won the iPad Mini.
– A co-worker of a MMM! father won the Boston Ballet Nutcracker tickets.
The O 4th grade fall concert was on Nov. 20 and went well.
There were also several community performances: November 21, Opening night of the McLaughlin Youth Hockey League; November 29, Roslindale Tree Lighting Ceremony; December 8, Ohrenberger Community Center Seniors Holiday Luncheon.
O 3rd grade mini concert: Originally scheduled for Friday, December 19, will now be held on December 12 at 9:00 a.m. in the O cafetorium.
BTVN 3rd grade mini concert: December 17 at 9 a.m. during the K1/K2 holiday show

Beethoven Give or Take Book Collection: We have a collection of children’s books in the Parent Room available to parents and teachers. If you have books that you have finished reading, please consider dropping them off and help yourself to a new book or two.
