Beethoven Parent Council Recap
May 14, 2013
Parent Council meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month in the Beethoven School auditorium. Childcare is provided.
A reminder that we are always collecting Sunny D Labels and Box Tops for Education.
There will soon be a parent portal into ASPEN – which is the computer software that teachers have started to use to track attendance, grades and homework assignments. Parents will be able access what teachers record to keep track of their student’s progress.
This summer there will be major renovations to the school building including: a lift will be put on side of the stage for handicapped accessibility, sprinklers will be installed throughout the building as part of a new fire alarm system, a new handicapped accessible bathroom will be put in the nurses office, the ceilings will be replaced throughout the building and an elevator will be installed. Most of these projects will be finished before school starts again in the Fall, but some might continue into the school year during off school hours. The renovations will begin as soon as school is out for the summer.
A new wellness policy is being voted on by the school district. Mr. P and the Site Council will keep us informed of any issues that would impact our programs and activities.
Movie Night was big success. It went smoothly and was very well organized. Thanks to all who volunteered especially Jill Maquire and Karen Kefalas for organizing the event.
The bake sale was also a success. Considering the small turnout of voters, we still made $551.50. Thanks so all who baked and worked, especially Cathy Ware and Joan Chan for organizing.
The teachers loved Teacher Appreciation Week and are so thankful (thank you notes are being posted in the parent center). A previous email went out with a detailed recap. Thanks to the many, many parents who contributed especially Britt Young and Joan Chan for coordinating the week. If you are missing a plate or container that you used to transport food to school please look in the parent center.
May 18: Paint the Pavement at 9am. Coordinated by Kristina Martin. A flyer went home in student folders and by email asking for volunteers which are still needed. Please contact Kristina if you can help.
June 11: 5:30 (note the earlier time) – last Parent Council Meeting. Elections for next year’s officers will be held. Leadership positions that will be open are:
- 2 co-chairs: Coordinate with the principal to assess needs & set the calendar of events for the school year, prepares agenda & lead monthly Parent Council meetings
- Secretary: Takes notes at monthly meetings & sends them (as well as other announcements) to the school community
- Treasurer: Records expenses & deposits, prepares monthly report for the Parent Council meeting, deposits proceeds from fundraisers, provides reimbursements for authorized Parent Council expenses
June 12: Ohrenberger Parent Council Meeting. 6:30 in the Ohrenberger library. Parents of incoming 3rd graders are invited to attend. Elections will be held for three of the Parent Council leadership positions for the 2013-2014 school year (co-chair, co-secretary and co-treasurer). In the Fall, they will hold elections for the 3 additional positions (co-chair, co-secretary and co-treasurer).
June 13 (Rain Date June 14): Field Day – coordinated by Katie Tattan. This is a fun day full of games and activities for all students held on the blacktop in front of the school. A flyer will be coming home in students’ folders looking for parents to volunteer. Please note that if you volunteer, it is important to the smooth running of the day and fairness to all parents to follow through on whatever assignment you have chosen or are given. Volunteers do need to fill out a CORI form by going to the office with an ID. There is also a possibility that 8th graders from the Ohrenberger will come over to help.
June 20: Kindergarten Celebration. 9:30am in the Beethoven Gym
June 25: Bake Sale during Senate election. This is one last opportunity to raise some funds to cover some of our expenses from this year and give us a cushion for next year. Coordinated by Cathy Ware, however someone is needed to be the point person on the actual day of the sale. Flyers will be coming home looking for bakers and volunteers.
June 27: Half day
June 28: Half day and last day of school.
