Parent Council Meeting Minutes – April 2013

Beethoven Parent Council Recap 

April 8, 2013

Meeting Notes:

Parent Council meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm-7:30pm (unless otherwise specified) in the Beethoven School auditorium. Childcare is provided.

A reminder that we are always collecting Sunny D Labels and Box Tops for Education.

The new computer lab has been installed.

Windows have been installed in the cafeteria doors in both the front and back of the building.

Renovations will be happening over the summer that will make the school more handicapped accessible.

Kindergarten graduation will be rescheduled – needs to be after June 24th.

51 students were accepted into exam schools.  This is up from 35 last year.

There will soon be a parent portal into ASPEN – which is the computer software that teachers have started to use to track attendance, grades and homework assignments.  Parents will be able access what teachers record to keep track of their student’s progress.

There were lots of donations for the uniform exchange but not many items were taken until they were taken to Arts and Crafts Day.  For the future having the exchange in conjunction with an event is recommended.

70 kids attended Arts and Crafts Day – up from last year.  It went very smoothly and everyone had fun.  We nearly broke even monetarily– any extra money will go into other events.  A suggestion for next year is to donate some of the crafts to local assistance living facilities/homes.

We are still looking for ideas for an enrichment activity.

Upcoming Activities: 

April 25: Movie Night showing a movie about small singing creatures who go on a trip.  5:30pm-8:00pm.  A flyer went home in students’ folders and you need to RSVP. 300 tickets will be available.  Attendees will be given pizza and a treat bag.  Donations of individual water bottles and juice boxes requested.  Questions? April 30:  Bake Sale during the state primary.  Cathy Ware will be coordinating. Look for a flyer in your child’s folder after spring break to volunteer to work and/or bake.

May 1: Art Show from 5:00—7:00 PM. It is a wonderful display of the amazing Art that students do at the Beethoven School. The theme this year is: Inspired by Nature. The classroom teachers will be at the school that evening in their classrooms to answer any questions you might have for the rest of the school year.

May 6-10: Teacher Appreciation Week coordinated by Joan Chan & Britt Young.   We’ll plan to have a breakfast, a classroom supplies shopping day, a luncheon, a spa day with chair massages and healthy snacks, and gifts throughout the week.  Quotes will be solicited from students about staff and teachers, which will be displayed in the gym.  Individual recognition of teachers by parents and students is encouraged.

May 11 (Rain Date May 18): 9am – Pavement Project coordinated by Kristina Martin.  City Year met with Parent Council members to go over painting procedures.  Funds are still needed for paint and will be acquired by fundraising and/or from the Parent Council Budget.  Liz Pujolas has been soliciting banks for funds with a letter developed by Mr P and Magda Hernandez.  Volunteers will be needed to paint!!  Please contact Kristina with any questions.

June 13 (Rain Date June 14):  Field Day – this is rescheduled from June 6 – coordinated by Katie Tattan.  If you have ideas for games or activities please contact Katie.

Non-Meeting Announcement:
