Parent Council meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the Beethoven School auditorium. Childcare is provided.
Mr. P reported that we are getting a new computer lab in the next month or so. We are receiving discount because we have not had an upgrade in years. Past and future fundraising will help to fund it.
In the wake of the Newtown tragedy Mr. P and other staff members have been reviewing safety procedures. One important reminder is that students should not be opening doors to let people in. Beethoven already has many safety measures in place that other schools are now implementing (e.g. people can only can get in the front door by buzzer).
After his visit to the playground Councilor Matt O’Malley sent a letter to the Boston Parks and Recreation Commissioner in support of our desire to upgrade our playground. Cathy Ware will be following up with him in the coming weeks.
Kristin Martin continues to work on the “Paint the Pavement” project. She has put together an extensive list of stencils we can use – some borrowed and some we need to purchase. The next step is to find the funding for the project. We are hoping to get the paint donated. If you would like to have some input into which stencils we should use please take this survey: http://kristinaemartin.polldaddy.com/s/beethoven-school and/or stop by the parking lot on Tuesday January 22 at 10am when Molly Puskar from City Year will meet with us to review our stencil choices and help us with the layout.
The Book Fair was a great success. The kids and parents loved shopping for books. The teachers appreciated receiving books for their classrooms. Thank you to all the volunteers!
Adrienne Yapo continues to work on upgrading the website. There are already improvements and more to come. Check it out at www.beethovenbps.wordpress.com
