Hello Beethoven parents!
We would like to extend a warm welcome to those of you who are either new to the school this year or new to the Parent Council. We appreciate everyone’s involvement and look forward to using the talents and skills everyone brings to this group. We encourage all parents to attend the meetings; however, if you can’t and are still interested in recieving updates, please contact Kristine Hughes (firstname.lastname@example.org), Parent Council Secretary, to get on the email distribution list.
The first parent council meeting was held this past Tuesday night and we’re off-and-running! Here’s a brief recap of what was discussed:
- Our first event is our BAKE SALE ON TUES. SEPT.22nd. The Beethoven School will be a voting site for the mayoral primary and we hope to make some money selling baked goods, coffee, and juices. If you are able to volunteer some time on Tuesday to help with the sale, please return the form that came home with your child yesterday or email Kristin Hughes (Parent Council Secretary) directly.
- The teachers are planning a SPECIAL NIGHT-OUT/FUNDRAISER FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6th FROM 7-11PM at the Elks Hall on Spring Street in West Roxbury. Musician/comedian/all-around-fun-guy, Jim Plunkett will be the entertainment, food and drinks will be served, and a silent auction and raffle are planned. Tickets will be $20 advance purchase or $25 at the door. We are looking for parents who are willing to solicit donations/gift cards from local businesses or through personal connections to include in the auction. All money raised will go directly to our school. Michele Sarro (Johnny, K1) volunteered to organize a fun 50/50 raffle or prize-oriented game for the Jim Plunkett night. Sounds like fun!
- Our annual MOVIE NIGHT WILL BE TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10th (no school on Wednesday the 11th). Doors will open at 5:30pm and the movie will start at 6pm and end by 8pm. Pizza and drinks will be served. This is a free event for all Beethoven students and their families. As always, a parent or caregiver must accompany his/her child(ren). Movie night details will be the focus of next month’s meeting.
- Other items that came up for discussion included: creating a flier for parents who would like to volunteer their special talents/interests, continuing with the school’s fall wrapping paper fund-raiser, looking into the creation of an online shopping portal that would give money back to our school, maintaining a Beethoven School blog (Tammy Schuetz Cook, Chance K1, to create), and interest in a flier to purchase adult-sized Beethoven shirts and baseball caps.
Our next meeting is Tuesday October 13th at 6pm in the school auditorium. As always, childcare is provided.
